Book Review: Life As We Knew It Trilogy

     Okay, so they're not really a trilogy. They are two companion novels and a sequel. But they are singlehandedly the best end-of-the-world books that I have ever read.

     Now for those of you who don't know the premise of these books--do you live under a rock? Just kidding. In the opening chapters, a meteor (or maybe an asteroid...) hits the moon, knocking it just a little bit closer to Earth. No big deal, right?
     Wrong.
      The tides take out the Eastern Seaboard, Hawaii, and Indonesia. Volcanoes erupting all over the world turn the skies gray with ash. Crops die. Electricity's down. And temperatures plummet as winter approaches.
     Miranda Evans is barricaded in her own sunroom, slowly starving to death with her family. Alex Morales is now the head of his family, and feels the heavy weight of responsiblity. Together, these two must learn to live and to love in the new, brave world, while still fighting to survive each passing day.
     These books sound utterly depressing, I'm sure. Well...they are. If--for some pointless reason--I have to put the book down and actually do something, I am always amazed to find electricity. Food. Susan Beth Pfeffer puts me in her world, even one as far away from our own reality as possible. The way she tells the story...it's utterly phenomenal.
      Crap. I just realized. It's Thursday, isn't it?
      Oh. Well, I'll post Autofill Thursday in the afternoon then. If you're that impatient, I'd recommend you stop at the library. These will keep you occupied.
